Tom Chambers

As well as being a prolific composer and record producer, Chris Walker has been associated with many West End and Broadway shows as musical director or orchestrator, including Godspell, Oliver!, Side by Side by Sondheim, My Fair Lady, Tomfoolery, Me and My Girl, Cabaret, Follies, Hot Shoe Shuffle, The Secret Garden (RSC, Stratford-upon-Avon and Aldwych) and Privates on Parade (Donmar Warehouse). He has also provided orchestrations for the movies Shirley Valentine and Impromptu. Theatre includes: orchestrations and dance arrangements for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium, Broadway and three UK tours), musical director for Ragtime (London) and he has worked with its Olivier Award-winning star, Maria Friedman, on her one-woman show (festivals throughout Europe and Carlyle Café, New York) and subsequently her show Maria Friedman Re-Arranged (Menier Chocolate Factory, London). Chris orchestrated Aladdin (Old Vic, two Christmas seasons) and provided dance arrangements for My Fair Lady (NT and Cameron Mackintosh, West End, UK and USA tours). Acorn Antiques (Theatre Royal, Haymarket,and UK tour), a recording of The Likes of Us, the first show composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and new musical Imagine This (ICW Productions,world premiere,Plymouth Theatre Royal and New London) contained Chris’s orchestrations. He directed New York and London workshops of Denis King and Mary Stewart-David’s musical play Afterwards, composed the score for Ray Cooney’s musical Twice Upon a Time (Guildford Yvonne Arnaud and Redondo Beach, Los Angeles) and was musical supervisor for new musical Der Schuh des Manitu (Stage Entertainment Productions, Theater des Westens, Berlin). More recently, orchestrations for Sweet Charity (Menier Chocolate Factory and Theatre Royal, Haymarket), Into the Woods and Ragtime (Regent’s Park Open Air) and revivals of Me and My Girl(Sheffield Crucible) and The Secret Garden (Edinburgh Festival Theatre and Toronto Royal Alexandra). Latest credits include orchestrations for Lend Me a Tenor (Plymouth Theatre Royal and Gielgud) and That Day We Sang composed by Victoria Wood (Manchester International Festival 2011). He re-orchestrated Ragtime for the 2012 Regent’s Park Open Air season. Chris is composing original projects of his own, including a new, as yet unnamed, project with choreographer-director Gillian Lynne and is also working on the score of an animated film in conjunction with Robert Sherman Junior.
